Piezoelectric tested materials
Up one levelBoth types of application are pursued in CASSEM. Two different forms of piezo-ceramics are investigated: HP PFC-sensors/actuators of Messrs. Neue Materialien Würzburg (NMW), whom WBI are closely co-operating with, and PZT-plates of Messrs. PI Ceramics that are designed for the d15-effect which is investigated in CASSEM

- The presented piezo-fibre transducer basically is a direction sensitive/actuating patch. This is due to the special setup where unidirectional piezoelectric fibres are energised by a pair of inter-digital electrode assemblies. The main difference to other piezo-fibre transducers (e. g. NASA-MFC) is the quasi-monolithic structure, allowing for outstanding mechanical and electrical properties. The polymer matrix embedding used in this assembly is a fibre-reinforced epoxy-based resin capable for aerospace applications. This special material combination serves the purposes of mechanical stabilisation, good flexibility and maximum achievable adhesion, thus allowing for a complete integration into reinforced plastics without massive weakening of the load-bearing structure.

- For the determination of d15, ceramic plates of Messrs. PI Ceramic were used: material PIC255, shear plate with dimensions 10 mm x 10 mm x 0.5 mm, with Au-electrode.
